When Terry McAuliffe took over the reins of the DNC in the early 2000′s, he knew that he needed to have an easy way to identify and reach democrats. Enter Demzilla, the multi-million, multi-name database that held the names and contact information on democrats throughout the nation, from the highest level of state chairmen to the local city aldermen.
Demzilla made it possible for fundraising efforts to be made by the flip of a virtual rolodex, and made targeted advertising much more effective by analyzing demographics in a more sophisticated manner.

Your post mischaracterizes the original post, if you go back and check the poster did not know the source of the call. Having made hundreds of calls for the McAuliffe campaign and knowing the script inside and out, I highly doubt the Arlington call was from the McAuliffe campaign…

I got a call a few nights ago from a very pleasant young lady who clearly identified herself as working for the McAuliffe campaign (I think she said “Friends of…”). She asked if I knew who I was supporting for Governor yet, and I said that I'd narrowed it down to either Moran or Deeds. She asked if I wanted any more information about McAuliffe and remained pleasant despite knowing her candidate would likely not get my support before the primary in June.

My childhood hero was Christa McAuliffe, the teacher who was chosen to go into space and was on the ill-fated Challenger. I realize that having Christa McAuliffe as a hero dates me somewhat (I'm only 31 though!) but I so vividly remember my obsession with astronauts and following Christa's story on the TV and in magazines (especially Life magazine – again, I know that dates me!)
Her involvement in the space program was part of a national “Teacher in Space” initiative that was launched in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan. More on the program can be found here:
I was in 3rd grade I think when the shuttle actually exploded. It was really upsetting for us young kids as we had been studying her for weeks. I don’t think at the time I viewed her as a “leader” only as a hero….someone I looked up to and wanted to be like. But in retrospect, at such a young age I had a very narrow view of leaders (authority figures) and Christa McAuliffe being a teacher pretty much automatically made her a leader. She was inspirational and a trail-blazer.

Although I was for Cas all the way, Terry is extremely talented and deserving of winning. I'm just surprised at the outcome.
Searches and YouTube hits for Cas were much higher than for Terry, which led me to believe Cas would win. I would be interested in knowing how the votes broke down by age and sex.
Maybe since there were 3 singers in the finals, they split enough of the vote for Terry to slip by Cas. Maybe it would have been a different result if one of the non-singing acts had gotten in instead of Julienne Irwin.
