Buenos días, les habla Ruben Kihuen, Miemro de la Asamblea Estatal de Nevada por el Partido Demócrata.
Este fin de semana, los candidatos Demócratas a la presidencia se están reuniendo con miembros del partido de todo el país en Washington en el primer foro nacional de las elecciones presidenciales del 2008.
Todos podemos sentirnos orgullosos de tener un grupo de candidatos Demócratas tan fuertes y diversos, entre los cuales puede resultar el primer Presidente afro-americano, el primer presidente hispano, o la primera mujer presidente de los Estados Unidos. Los Demócratas siempre hemos luchado para asegurar que las minorías puedan participar en el proceso político, y el hecho de tener un grupo con tanta diversidad, no obstante quien gane, es un gran acontecimiento para el Partido Demócrata, pero aún más importante para Estados Unidos.
Lo que sucede en el Congreso y en la Casa Blanca impacta nuestras vidas a diario. En noviembre, ustedes los votantes fueron a las urnas y no dejaron duda de que les importa el futuro de nuestro país, y que quieren una nueva dirección. Sus votos hicieron la diferencia.
Ya ha quedado claro que los Demócratas hemos cambiado el Congreso. En la Cámara de Representantes, durante las primeras cien horas, los Demócratas aprobamos proyectos de ley para aumentar el sueldo mínimo, para reducir los costos de las medicinas, para implementar las recomendaciones de la comisión que investigó el 9/11 y hacer a nuestro país más seguro, y aprobamos nuevas normas para acabar con la cultura de corrupción que dejaron los Republicanos en Washington. En el Senado, los Democratas presentamos 10 proyectos de ley incluyendo medidas para establecer la independencia de los Estados Unidos en materia de energía y para la reforma integral de inmigración. Esta semana, los Democratas en el Senado también vamos a ponerle en claro al Presidente que estamos opuestos a su plan que enviaría a más tropas Americanas a la guerra civil en Irak. Nuestras tropas valientes, algunas de las cuales volveran a Irak por segunda o tercera vez, se merecen algo mejor.
Las elecciones son importantes. Y sus votos ya han hecho una gran diferencia. Pero este es solo el comienzo. Muchos miembros del Congreso volveran a pedir sus votos en el 2008 al igual que los candidatos presidenciales inaugurando sus campañas. Les pido que sigan haciendo que cada uno de ellos se haga responsable por sus acciones, y sé que todos los Demócratas lucharemos para seguir ganando su confianza. En las próximas elecciones, los hispanos vamos a jugar un papel aún más importante de lo que hemos hecho en el pasado. En el Partido Demócrata hemos logrado que dos estados con poblaciones hispanas grandes sean más importantes en la nominación presidencial. Uno de los primeros concursos electorales se llevará a cabo en mi estado de Nevada, y la Convención Nacional del Partido Demócrata se llevará a cabo en Denver, Colorado. Nuestro impacto no se detendrá ahí. Desde California a Ohio y a Florida, y en muchos de los otros estados, podemos hacer reconocer que no somos un gigante durmiente, somos Americanos y votamos.

Nevada Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen to Deliver Hispanic Radio Address
Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen, one of the youngest members of a state legislature in the country, will deliver the Hispanic radio address this Saturday. Kihuen represents the 11th District in Nevada, which will hold the second presidential nomination contest for the Democratic Party of the 2008 elections. Kihuen will discuss the Democratic Party’s strong and diverse field of presidential candidates, and the important role the Hispanic community will play in the 2008 presidential elections. Kihuen will highlight the strong leadership Democrats are already showing in Congress, and will show in the White House in 2008. The Democratic Hispanic Radio Address runs opposite President Bush’s dubbed weekly radio address on Spanish language radio.
The audio of the address will be heard through local Univisión Radio, Latino Broadcasting Company, Radio Fórmula, Radiovisa, Radio Bilingüe, and CNN en Español Radio affiliates after 11:06 a.m. ET on Saturday.

Good morning, this is Ruben Kihuen, Assemblyman from the State of Nevada for the Democratic Party.
This weekend the Democratic candidates for President are gathering with party members from across the country in Washington, DC for the first formal national forum of the 2008 presidential elections.
We can all be proud that we have such a strong and diverse field of presidential candidates in the Democratic Party, among whom it’s possible that the first woman, the first African-American, or the first Hispanic could be elected President of the United States. Democrats have always fought to ensure minorities a role in the political process, and having such a diverse group of candidates, regardless of who wins, is great for the Democratic Party, but even better for America.
What happens in Congress and in the White House has a profound impact on our daily lives. In November, you the voters went to the polls and made it clear that you care about the future of our country, and that you wanted a new direction. Your vote made a difference.
Already Democrats have changed Congress. In the House of Representatives during the first 100 hours alone, Democrats passed legislation that would increase the minimum wage, help lower the cost of medicines, implement the recommendations of the 9/11 commission to make us safer, and passed new rules to clean up the Republican culture of corruption in Washington. In the Senate, Democrats introduced 10 key bills including bills to make America energy independent and for comprehensive immigration reform. This week, Democrats in the Senate will also make it clear that we disagree with the President's plan to send more American troops into the Iraqi civil war. Our brave troops, some of whom would have to go back to Iraq for a second or third time, deserve better.
Elections matter. And your vote has made a tremendous difference. But this is only the beginning. Many in Congress will be asking for your vote again in 2008, and the presidential candidates kicking off their campaigns will ask the same. I urge you to continue to hold us all accountable, and I know we'll work hard to continue to earn your trust. In the next elections Hispanics will play an even bigger role than we've seen in the past. In the Democratic Party we have now made two states with large Hispanic populations critical in the presidential election. One of the first nominating contests for President will take place in Nevada, and the Democratic Party's national convention will be held in Denver, Colorado. But our impact will not end there. From California, to Ohio, to Florida, and in so many states in between, we can make it clear we're no longer a sleeping giant, we're Americans, and we vote.
