The Republican Party is in danger of losing key constituencies:
The Republican Party, known since the late 19th century as the party of business, is losing its lock on that title.

Some business leaders are drifting away from the party because of the war in Iraq, the growing federal debt and a conservative social agenda they don't share. In manufacturing sectors such as the auto industry, some Republicans want direct government help with soaring health-care costs, which Republicans in Washington have been reluctant to provide. And some business people want more government action on global warming, arguing that a bolder plan is not only inevitable, but could spur new industries.
So it's important to note that not only might they be losing those constituencies, but they're losing them because those constituencies agree with key progressive issues.

Businesses are coming to Democrats because they've found a progressive pulse? Are you serious?
If they're moving away from Republicans and toward Democrats it's because they, first and foremost, believe the Dems will offer as big and full a trough to swill from as the Republicans do. The voting records of Democrats as a whole, in both houses, would argue that this is indeed the case. The no-bid Medicare drug swindle was done with Democratic leadership support. The gigantic raid on the US Treasury that the Iraq war really represents was started, and is now continued, with once active and now embarassed tacit acquiecence of elected Democratic party leadership. Tax cuts for oil companies pulling down eleven figures per quarter, sweetheart deals for prescription drug companies, irresponsible deregulation on all fronts, continued support for the monopolization of American businesses, a wink and nod as thousands of good paying jobs go overseas every month - all this is happening with Democratic Party support.
Please...let's be serious...the American business to which politicians of both major parties are beholden, has as much interest in "progressive" issues as Smith & Wesson has in passing gun control laws.
