John McCain Doesn't Know Who He Endorses
Posted by Matt Ortega on March 17, 2008 at 04:45 PM
John McCain appeared on the NPR program, Morning Edition today. In the radio appearance, McCain cited Jim Oberweis' anti-immigrant rhetoric for the Republicans' loss of former Speaker Denny Hastert's seat to Democratic Rep. Bill Foster.
Despite traveling to the district to formally endorse and headline a fundraiser for Oberweis, McCain claims to have not known about the Republican candidate's fiercely anti-immigrant stances.
"We just had a loss of Denny Hastert's seat out in Illinois. The Republican candidate out there, I am told, had very strong anti-immigrant rhetoric also, so I would hope that many of our Republican candidates would understand the political practicalities of this issue." [emphasis added]
Oberweis remains on the November ballot as the general election candidate for the Republicans. Among the anti-immigrant ties of Oberweis: "elimination" of birthright citizenship, cozying up to the Minutemen, and running an infamously anti-immigrant ad.
Early in the primaries, McCain claimed he "got the message" on immigration, a line that he often repeated in front of conservatives and stated in interviews in the run-up to the Republican primaries, signifying his move away from comprehensive immigration reform to "enforcement-first."
Now that he's got the GOP nomination, McCain is putting on the same dog-and-pony show that he always has.

*[new] some thoughts.. (0.00 / 0)
I agreed with what I heard from Rev Wright. I've already stated that. I too am very angry about what our country has done in Iraq although I didn't really have much control over it. I didn't get a war vote unlike hillary the queen. the comments Wright made about 9-11 were made on 9-16 if I'm not mistaken. most of us were still reeling from the shock but this guy had enough sense to know why so many Muslims hate us so intensely. jerry falwell said that God was damning us on 9-11 because of the gay community and the ACLU. some condemned his words but many others rallied behind him. one was Billy Grahm's daughter. I remember being at my mom's house and she was on tv talking about the wrath of God coming down and my mother was saying " that's right" well, I guess I agree more with Rev Wright. I feel that God would be madder about us destroying an entire civilization- the 1st civilization actually...than two girls loving each other..... but that's just me. I personally don't believe that GOD is angry. in my opinion, God is above that. I believe that God gives us the freedom to follow our own path and we always choose to destroy each other. Obama had to say he didn't agree. they were harsh words. he hasn't really run his campaign on race but it's always slammed into his face. he's damned either way. he's not black enough to be black and he's just dark enough not to be white. the man is trying. this is getting uglier by the minute. the Democratic leaders are either drunk on their own power (clinton crew) or shaking in their shoes because they know their party could easily fall on this one election. nancy pelosi is stating that the superdelegates should vote with the people. she sees what is coming. also, why are we taking something that was said in church and putting it under a microsope? you can accuse the Rev for mixing politics with religion but everyone in that church was there by choice. it's not my choice to hear this crap over and over when I turn on the news. I can only hope that a million angry black people will rally and get out and vote for Obama.
IT'S THE WAR STUPID!

Dear Democratic Party,
If Obama gets the nomination, I will write in Hillary's name on the November ballot or vote for McCain. The leaders of this party have empowered the weaker candidate. Obama is so unqualified to be President. He has no history of bringing people together. If anything, he has a record of skipping the tough votes. In 1999, he was in Hawaii and missed out on the gun control bill in Illinois.
I have never seen such a dysfunctional group as the Democratic Party. You have botched this primary season by backing a Manchurian candidate. By letting the Republicans cross over and vote in our Primaries, you have made a mockery of the system. Obama has won in caucus states where less than 30 to 20% of registered Democratic voters have participated.
One more thing, by not giving the voters of Florida and Michigan another chance to vote, they will likely vote Republican.
All my funds are going to Hillary or McCain.
Go Team Hillary!!!

I like Senator Obama a lot. I think he is authentic and a genuine "change" candidate. His speech was brilliant and it was obvious he has the ability to bring people together and help in creating a "more perfect" union.
However, I also think his handlers, all Washington insiders are giving advise of "more of the same". That makes this very genuine candidate seem hollow. Look at the "wink and a nod" with respect to NAFTA. Look at what happened with Samantha Powers statement in BBC on the Iraq War. Or how Senator Obama has progressed from unconditional withdrawal to "careful getting out as careless getting in" or the latest transformation of how he will listen to the "commanders on the ground". Isn't that what Bush has been saying with respect to the withdrawal for the last few years?
The Senator gave an impassioned speech against caricaturization of Rev. Wright by conservative commentators. I fully agree with him on that. He also spoke about race relations in this country being complex and how people are grappling with it. And then he lets his campaign go on a witch hunt of Ms. Ferraro and caricaturization of her begign opinions as racism. Unless the Senator stops his "inside Washington" surrogates from "business as usual" he runs the danger of being called, unfairly I may add, hollow.
I think the propaganda by the mainstream media against Senator Clinton has made Senator Obama conclude he is invincible. The arrogance he showed in rejecting Senator Clinton's suggestion of a VP was so uncharacteristic of the person he seems to be.
I think the propaganda by the mainstream media to shut down the candidacy of Senator Clinton and the advice from his "Washington insider" advisors is leading Senator Obama to force disenfranchisement of voters of Florida and Michigan; such a contradiction of what he has so successfully done in this campaign- empowering and exciting people and bringing them together. His "Washington Insider" advisors realize if there is a revote in Florida and Michigan Senator Obama will suffer loses bigger than what we saw in Ohio. That would cause the Senator to fall behind at least in popular vote if not the pledged delegates.
His statement in the last debate was telling when Senator Obama accused Senator Clinton of being secretive with respect to her Health Care initiative while she was the first lady. And how many of the Washington Insiders who are big supporters of his were so upset about it. What he forgets is these very same Washington Insiders did nothing in so many years they were in Washignton in Healthcare because they were beholden to the Insurance and Pharma lobbyists. The then First Lady tried hard to do something about it and met resistance from the very same insiders who are now backing the "Change Candidate". Does Senator Obama realize by taking that stand, he is contradicting his own "Change" message.

Dear Howard Dean,
We are so disgusted with the democratic party
I recommend that the votes for Florida and Michigan be counted or hold a re vote.
Howard Dean you need to be fired and sent back to may home state of vermont. You have done nothing
and you are as useless a pimple on a donkey's
ass. If Obama gets the nomination without counting floria or michigan, Mccain has are vote.
Screw the democratics and the jack ass they rode in on. This is not democracy. Who made up the
flipping rule not to count the votes when we didn't have a say. Let the people vote. We should
count more than the stupid (super)delegates. Let
the people vote and get rid of the flipping rule
to discount our votes. maryanne

I think Gov. Richardson should endorse the candidate he thinks is best for the Democratic nomination. I think Mr. Carville is wrong in calling him a traitor for his endorsement of Senator Obama. However, if the Gov starts bad mouthing the very people who helped him with his political career, then I don't see anything wrong in folks wondering if there is a political payback of some sort that the Obama campaign has promised the Gov for the endorsement. Equally troubling is Senator Obama's double standards. If the Senator insists that super delegates should vote the will of people they represent, then shouldn't Gov. Richardson, Senator Kennedy, Senator Kerry and Gov of MA vote for Senator Clinton.
Senator Obama talks about empowering the people then puts all the hurdles in the way of counting Florida and MI. Very clearly, he knows Senator Clinton will carry both these states in the event of a revote big time. It looks like political opportunism is putting enfranchising every citizen in the back seat. Is this not hypocricy?
I think the media has been wrong in dragging Rev Wright into the political discourse. I think Senator Obama gave an inspirational and brilliant speech on race relations in this country. However, there are questions that remained unanswered. Primary being what does Senator Obama think of the Liberation Theology that is the basis of his church and how it will influence his Presidency.
Senator Obama is seeing his support slipping in a big way and he and his campaign are becoming extremely negative. That in itself smacks of hypocricy. And CNN isn't calling it throwing the kitchen sink. CNN is becoming the propaganda arm of the Obama campaign much like Fox is for right wing Republicans.
